There is no doubt that I love silk.  Currently, every style in the Basal range is made from beautiful silk!
So, what is so special about silk?  Aside from it being a natural fiber and inherently sustainable.  Silk looks luxurious and feels so soft on the skin.

However, there is so much more to love…...

ANTIAGING
Yes, its true.  Silk has anti aging properties which has been a well-known celeb secret for years.
The reason, because silk contains 18 Essential (and non-essential Amino Acids).   Ever heard of Sericin?  It is the same protein used in beauty products specifically, Skin and Hair care.  This protein has excellent moisture preservation characteristics.  It is these same natural properties found in silk that can speed up the regeneration of skin cells and in turn, reduce the effects of aging.
Amazing!!!

NON-ALLERGENIC
These days so many of us have an allergy or an intolerance to something or another.  However, an allergy to silk is in fact very rare!  Silk contains natural animal protein fibers, which chemically are very similar to human skin.  This is why silk is dubbed “Second skin” and probably why it feels so good to wear.
This is great news for anyone with sensitive skin, as Silk is the most hypoallergenic of all fabrics, a real plus point!

BREATHABLE
This is probably the main reason why I have an affinity with silk.  After spending almost 12 years living in one of the most humid countries in the world, Hong Kong.  I quickly learnt that hot humid weather and synthetic fabrics like polyester were not meant to be friends.
So, no surprise to say Silk had just the opposite effect, and it became my BFF.
In those hot stifling summer months, I discovered that silk was able to absorb up to 30% moisture before it felt damp to touch.  That’s 1.5 times more than cotton!  Not just that, because its surface is so smooth, it has a natural ability to repeal stains and odors caused by perspiration.
But wait, there’s more…...silk is not just limited to cooling the body, it can also warm simultaneously.  Acting like a “second skin” underneath without the bulk.

So…. what’s not to love?
